Fond farewell

What a week... The end of a year.

Our blissful weekend at the W's feels like a lovely but distant memory. Those beautiful puppies, country walks, pub lunches and fire pit joy. Our extraordinarily British insistence that the sun shone so let's have a BBQ - which was lush but very cold and in the dark with torches lighting our way. And here I am on my way to Japan. Life is full and full on.

Two mornings this week have been getting up early to deliver the training sessions online to international adult students learning how to be a leader. I enjoyed them both and it reminded me of the elements of leadership I enjoy.

At school there have been lots of goodbyes and many last lessons with classes. I wasn't sorry to have my last lesson with one particularly hard year 9 class, but the drama club were sad and many students wished me the best of luck. I got some sweet cards and a few nice emails as well, quite a lot of chocolate, flowers and probably my favourite gift, is a pair of hand made earrings. I have aimed to make matching earrings to my outfit part of my teacher persona. A year has flown by, a fact I must remember when I am inevitably feeling a bit overwhelmed next term at my new school. I spoiled my form on Thursday, we had tutor time in a drama studio with donuts, crisps and sweets and I'd got them all a little Easter egg each. We played some silly kids games and at 14 and 15 years old they loved it, the boys allowed to be simply silly and the girls mostly joining in too. I will miss them. I've often reflected that teaching must feel a bit like being a foster parent. You give as much as you can and then they go, or in this case, I go. I left knowing that I've left doors open and built up a network here of people who appreciate me and that feels good. The Head told me that I should look out for jobs and he would always welcome and application from me. Good to know! I got home to my wonderful daughter, opening the door for a very big cuddle. We then celebrated Easter a little early and check our suitcases while eating her egg! She then helped me with getting dinner ready as E and D came over before we headed off to a pub quiz. It was not great, as in the company was fine but the questions were very 'beer' based and I really knew nothing. So all the women at the table (4 of us) left early. I've seen lovely friends too, catch ups and no booze in the week, well not until Thursday.

Lots of spring love although it's hailed here and snowed in Liverpool and Norfolk so...
