After the usual pottering about on Saturday I set about doing a jigsaw and binge watched a series. I started to listen to the most recent Reith lectures with Rutger Bergman and the first episode was, as he warned, was quite a grim listen. I think this added to a feeling of slight glumness so I resolved to get in the garden and lose myself in a bit of nature. It was mainly picking up cat shit, but still a bit of weeding and looking at the potential of the crocuses, snowdrops and daffodils did cheer me. I did another short roller derby session this week and watched a programme mum had recommended and felt rather smug at our lack of Ultra Processed foods in our diet. Also rather proud of BigA and me for having made it to week 3 with no booze. It certainly is easier when you're doing it with someone. I bought a bottle of alcohol free wine too see if it would help with my craving for a glass. Didn't quite work and I added tonic to it. Nice enough then.
One of the highlights of my working week was the workshop I got to be in with my year 10. It was about Brecht and I realised how much I miss this type of thing, although I knew it all (brag) but always lovely to watch as class build their knowledge, and some really lovely year 7s who are really enjoying my version of Mrs Brown in our mystery lessons. Plus a little group of boys running to show me their crumbles at the end of the day. And my lowlight was finding out one of my form has been excluded for a very unpleasant and violent act.
A few online meetings this week, the school I'm a governor at had a tragedy last term where a student was killed. Outside of school but we had a meeting to reflect on what we as Governors could have known and done, and what we should make sure we watch out for.
Then a more joyful coaching session and Derby committee things.
I went for an after school MRI this week, ready for clinic next week. Just my brain so I think I'm out of sync again for my full scans!
I had the chance to get into my new school yesterday. And I'm so pleased I did. Not only did I start to get my head around the new systems I also met a lot of the students - one called me adorable. They all seemed lovely, excited to find out who the new drama teacher will be. They obviously adore the current one.
Enjoy spring trying to find its way to us all...may all your flowers bloom
