As if the way with birthdays, it was delightful and over all too quickly. After tea in bed, morning presents, opened in front of my mum and sister for the first time in years, I then got a scrumptious BLT for breakfast. Mum and I took a leisurely stroll to the seafront and had a small lunch while chatting away about the past and future. It was the first rainy day for weeks there on the coast, not too much and therefore no flashfloods that I'm sure will occur once the heat of this summer subsides. We went out again for our evening meal, a place most of us hadn't been to before and a meat eaters heaven. Really delicious. Home for a little more celebration and reminiscing about childhood and the warmth of fond memories made the absence of my little family ok in the end. I felt very loved. 

Home to a poorly husband I set about getting the house shipshape for, firstly A's boyfriend who will be staying here while he works at a theatre in London and for the family of 5 who need a place to stay for 6 days before they can move into their home. 

Off to T for a just shy of a week of relaxation and fun. This was in the form of great food, massive 2000 piece jigsaw, reading, bit of shopping, walking, chatting, code names and for BigA and Ml a day long bike ride. I've evening their nextdoor neighbours had us all over for a homecoming meal. And there i got to catch up with Rs other family members. We visited a local vineyard and sampled the 2023 and 24 white wine. We enjoyed the spoils of the vegetable patch I saw develop last year. It was, like so much of the UK, sad to see the dryness of the farm land and knowing the impact on the harvest. And under my careful and strict supervision Re did a good old clear out inspired by getting the uni box for her first one to be heading to uni in a few weeks. 

There's been many highlights to this trip, the little interactions that tell me how much I love this family and, frankly how much they love me. D sitting chatting with me while we finish the 2000 piece jigsaw, By standing next to me waiting for the hello hug, Aa, bringing us each plate of food and drink with a confidence and pride in her place of work and giving us a few freebies to boot. 

It has been a great week.

Brussels

Last Saturday the girls and I set off for a day trip to Brighton, me to meet up with Sharon and Chaz and them to have a bit of a wander around - to see a place that they had both been to when younger but not for a long time. It was a truly lovely day and I was so full of the happiness of it all, that I almost didn't mind the excruciating delays on the train home.  Sunday was all about getting digging in the garden, I was determined to make a start on the area near the door to dig out as much as possible and redistribute the earth to the back of the garden and around. Garden clearance

  On Saturday, after a bit of cleaning I set out in our car to see my pal Clare. I enjoyed the drive, once I got used to the high bite of the clutch and got my seat in the right place. So nice not to have to worry about uneven roads, goats and drivers, that are broadly speaking, following the same highway code. It was also so lovely to catch up with her, haven't seen her for a few years, and like all great friendships, we fell into our easy chat.  It's been a week of visits in many ways, a new friend came over, we met at an interview in February. Happily we still got on very well and we will make an effort to see each other again.  Margaret and Dick came to stay for a couple days with the main purpose of seeing us of course and helping sort out the back garden. Norfolk trying to find spring

 I spent a lovely morning with Joe, bacon sandwich included and later that day Edgar and I went to the theatre for a matinee performance of 'the winner's Curse' at a newish theater in Finsbury Park, this was followed by a meal with one of Edgar's friends, a very pleasant day.  The next morning I packed up a small suitcase and got a bus then long walk to get the prescription for my hydrocortisone, the Dr had no real clue what VHL was but I had my scan request letter that showed I didn't have any adrenal glands, so after a bit of googling and a call to someone he felt knew more than he did I got it. A few stops then to Liverpool street to have a quick cup of tea with my wonderful Rosie who happened to be in London that weekend with her beautiful and clever daughter Anna and then a longer than normal trip back to good old Norfolk.  My sister had cooked a beautiful sunday roast, ably assisted by her husband with delicious gravy and yorkshire pudding.
