hail and sun
After a little house tidy I went off to meet a pal who I have now known for over 15 years, funny how some people stick and others don't. We usually see each other in rapid succession for a few months and then there is a massive gap in-between. And, as is the way with friendships like that, it felt as if no time had passed at all as we sat in his garden and chatted about teaching these days and our daughters who have almost finished their first year at uni. We wandered into Muswell Hill where I was greeted with a "Miss" and after a great felt cuddle this old student and I enjoyed a good old catch up. Then I went home because despite thinking I was feeling better I was starting to feel rough again and needed to rest in the comfort of my own home. Bloody colds.
Sunday I did the rookies session, wobbly though. But I'm glad I went because, despite me having to blow my nose a lot I did a good job considering I really am not ready for full contact yet.
My working week was a little stressful because I had to follow my gut and report an issue I'd noticed. There's of course more to it but essentially I did the right thing and I feel very supported by my school as a result. I also felt very supported by pals I checked in with to reassure myself I was right to, well, whistleblow.
Thanks to some of the donations of gays etc my drama club were thrilled to dress up for a slapstick workshop I ran with them. And we got over 30 students sign up to the school summer concert that me and the music teacher are planning. I was called a fucking bitch just once, by a student I'd never met before and had known for roughly 3 minutes, but I was told more than once by other people that they thought I was wonderful so it balanced out the week. I also joined in with drum club, where the wee more teachers than students and then I went to the pub with my work colleagues. Sober as a judge and a lovely way to start the weekend.
BigA returned from Scotland very late on Tuesday and we were invited over to D and D's for a rather lovely veggie lasagna and chats before a brisk walk home and in bed by 9:30, a perfect mid week night out. And one evening a short catch up over a cuppa with a pal was just the tonic before I settled down with a bar of chocolate and a good series on TV.
I haven't heard much from A as she's super busy with work at uni. A and M were there last weekend and I loved to see that the friendship they made over 8 years ago is lasting and stays strong.
A simple week and that lingering cold has almost gone. And happily we've finally had some rain, oh and hail, so the garden is blooming beautifully.
