Costume Woes

Saturday was a joyous day. My lovely husband wandered down the high street with me to encourage me to try on almost every dress in the one good womens clothes shop on Gorleston high street and in the end I bought a great outfit for my niece's birthday party.  We did then go into a retro shop and got a few more things, followed by a rather lovely lunch and then a lay down in the sun in mum's garden before getting ready for the party. Oh and it was so lovely. We all looked fabulous, I think we made for a very attractive family. Perhaps not quite as attractive as our first taxi driver looked, sounded and smelled. He was like the lead love interest in a Jilly Cooper novel. The party was full of laughing, drinking, loud music of mostly us older ones era and then of course, dancing. My sister was on top social form, hosting brilliantly and getting everyone on the dance floor at some point and because I was surrounded with people I love and love me I went for it but oooff my feet did still hurt the next morning, even more than my head. It was great to see E enjoy herself so much, and so nice to have lots of her friends and family celebrating together.

The sun shone the next morning as mum and I relaxed in the garden watching the gulls dominate the sky with their noise. We decided the day before to go a little further afield for lunch and set off to Ormsbey. We had a really great roast dinner followed by a scrumptious white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake and we thought we might have a walk in the sun after, but it was colder than it looked so off we went for a quick cuppa before BigA and I set off back to London.

The work week was once again good in lots of ways. I did a full lesson observation for my mentee who is very appreciative of my feedback, although she was off sick the next day, but I think that was a genuine sore throat. I had my first parents evening and it was a combination of that and Yr 9 options. Given that I was into my 3rd week and have seen some students just once I really couldn't say much but over 16 students have said they are considering drama as an option next year. I also had a group of yr 11 excitedly ask if I would be able to do a BTEC level 3 (for their post 16 studies) to which I said yes and then they went and asked the Headteacher if she would allow it, it's a maybe but happily not a no. Another first of being in the 'relo' room. The place students go when they have been sent out of a lesson. 2 of my new form in there and then a quite loud and emotional moment with a girl who was - in old speak - kicking off. I'm told it isn't normally that eventful. I even got the bus home one day as BigA needed the car and found that although it took twice as long as the drive it wasn't too painful a commute if I need it again. I started a drama club and at first I thought no one was going to turn up, but then I got about 15 keen students and we had loads of fun. And yesterday I had a really joyous lesson with my year 11, who are finished so everything we are doing is just for fun and learning - mask workshop, with props and wigs I bought from home as there is nothing in the department. So I am on the hunt for bits of simple costume, scarfs, wigs and hats. I can feel a few trips to the charity shop to get stocked up. Most drama departments have the opposite problem, too much random stuff.  And just like that I'm half way through the first half term and I have had another lovely week at work.

This weekend, a long one (I do miss them) we have headed to Rugby. We arrived in the sun and immediately began chatting eating and watched a few clips about Asian theatre before I headed to bed leaving the troupers to stay up later than 10!
This morning I've woken up quite early so I'm looking out at M and D's beautiful garden to start my day.
