Paris

bravely did a cautious prune of my apple tree and then did a random range of things in the garden, a gentle start to the weekend. We then played host to one of BigA's friends Au pair - perfectly lovely, young and enthusiastic about being in London which was nice.

Sunday was the first of the new intake Rookie taster sessions, I can only make about half of them as helper. I am being quite cautious because I really didn't want to break anything. It was good to be useful, I stayed to be an NSO (non skating official) in what we call mega scrim and learnt more about some rules etc. Home to a restless nights sleep, which is common before term starts.
Back at work and it was exam week for yr 13. They did alright, suddenly adding things they never did before and two of them dropped lines which will impact their grade because it was obvious. Otherwise a fair enough week of work. I know I keep saying it but I really will miss 4 day weeks. I taught my toughest class and just didn't have the energy to be a good teacher, so I was distinctly average. It was all round a very quiet week, preserving my energy for this weekend. Mum and J arrived not long after I'd got home and we agreed to start the holiday there and then with a sensible cup of tea then wine and a meal out. An early start to get on the Eurostar yesterday and now we are in gay Pari. First time the three of us have been properly away together just us.

I do so wish I could retain language better. It seems a sad indictment of the British education system that I must have studied French for around 5 or more years and I can barely order myself a meal without stumbling and being grateful when I'm spoken to in English. But between the three of us we've done quite well. We did lots of walking and steps up to the Sacre Coure church I very much hope when I'm 75 I can do this like my mum can. We ate delicious cake on the way and after I very much enjoyed my evening meal, although I had the best one by far. The apartment we're in is perfect, small and comfy and in a great location for all things Paris.

We've just had croissants and cheese for breakfast and are about to venture out again.

The weather and length of the day continues to improve, more colour creeping in.
