interview

What a special weekend we had. In the morning I gave mum the book I'd complied with pictures and memories and compliments from those I'd managed to get in touch with. We then sat and looked through them all. A short visit from another cousin and a trip to get balloons and an outfit for A then back for more family and off to get my hair curled by E while we chatted with Jo and K and of course had a couple of glasses of wine. Then back for a change and ready for the party. And it was so lovely, full of mostly people I know and a few I don't but we chatted, watched with pride as A introduced herself to people and nattered away confidently. I got to sing a song and then enjoyed it very much when mum was forced into one too. Then off came my heels and the dancing could really get going. It was the highlight of my night to dance with my big sis and laugh so hard and hug so tightly. A night filled with love and joy. The night concluded when just people had left but a bunch of the D clan sat and chatted happily listening to mum's stories - some known already but a few twists to keep it interesting and there was a new addition of a girlfriend who was hearing them all for the first time. We eventually got everyone out but couldn't even begin to take the huge number of gifts which were mostly red wine.
The next morning we had a hearty breakfast of cheese and toast and lots of tea and family came by for one last catch up and hugs before we all set off. Dropping A at the station wasn't too bad this time, knowing I'll see her in a couple of weeks. It really was an excellent party with so much fun and laughter. I know how much my mum means to people but it really was a treat to see them come to share in that together. I also very much enjoyed being told I hadn't changed and thanked the lighting on the place for them not seeing my crinkly neck and the onset of middle age jowls.

Once home, in a spirit of can't be arsed to cook and enjoying spending time with family we met up with E and D for a meal at the relatively newly reopened San Marco. It was very nice, really nothing has changed at all. We noticed, on the way down a new place that we suspect is Polish food. Not known for their vegetarian food but I'm sure we'll give it a go soon.

BigA and I have been enjoying our evenings of TV watching - even joined by M on a couple of occasions.

Only 2 weeks left of term at school. Everyone does seem tired and as busy as ever. I started a drama club for the younger year groups. I never used to enjoy them but I think now I am not feeling like it's just a waste of time, I can see the fun in it. No pressure for anything good just some fun. Apart from yr 9 lessons, which remain hard work I had a good week and mostly things went well.
And yesterday I went for a job interview, I wasn't sure about it before I arrived but seeing happy staff and really getting on with the Head I began to wonder what it would be like to teach there and, in a department of 1, to be able to teach what I want. So when, after my drive to S the Head called and offered me the job I knew it was going to be a yes.

M then got a bottle of fizz to celebrate and we ate and drank and laughed and cried (a little) because we are good at fluctuating between comedy and tragedy in our stories. I think that's because we are teachers!

And so I've woken up in a part of the world I don't think I've ever been to before and M and I will see what the dates holds!
