I had a delightfully pleasant Saturday, a call with mum, then R, bit of a dash around tidy then met J at the Hub, numerous teas drunk and chats and I bumped into a relatively new friend, who I went on a walk with around a couple of parks, back home to do a bit of light admin - like getting M's birthday presents ready and then relaxed while BigA cooked for the dinner party that evening. Oh and I potentially saved a life by pointing out to a man in the road that he was stood next to a very large no smoking sign with a lit cigarette in his hand. I let him know the reason for the sign was the gas leak being fixed. He thanked me. Laughed and as I recommended - he moved around the corner. The frisbee couple were delightful. We had so much in common, not least the shared Catholic background of us women and the atheist Judaism of the men. She made and brought a carrot cake, delicious and of course made me think of my dad.
My weekend concluded with a meet up with my Southgate lot - the ones that mostly used to be teachers and who nearly half have left teaching. We had intended an early meal but frustratingly P and I got caught up in a traffic jam and were almost 2 hours late. Got there, ravenous and happily I had a huge roast beef dinner that, because Sam had ordered it before we arrived, came almost as soon as we sat down. It is always so lovely to see them but so hard for us all to make it. We had a much better journey home.
It was M's birthday this week and we went out for dinner with her, her dad and brother and Joe's partner, Judy and her sons. It was a fair old drive but I loved the lamb shank I ordered. Delicious. It was also great to meet her potential step brothers. I was pleased to see proudly she put her cards up on the mantle and was thrilled with the gifts she got.
School has been another good week, I still worry about little things that would never have gotten to me before all the shit, but it mainly feels lovely and safe. It was great to go on a theatre trip with year 10 to see Punch. A piece based on a true story about a man who hit a stranger and killed him, then the consequences and the victim's parents reaction and ultimate forgiveness. Very moving in places and a well directed piece. I was squashed in-between two very large be people and even that didn't stop me loving the play. It's show week next week so very busy.
This week I did a bit of singing at choir and another evening and went to a pub quiz on another, which was really good fun and we came 4th, with very little help from me. It was in aid of the relief fund for Jamaica and the questions were all linked to there. They raised nearly £700 which is pretty impressive. Yesterday I cracked on with some little projects and looked out mournfully at the miserable rain and wondered about if I should go out in it to get some other chores off my list. So this week has felt quite busy. Once again counting my blessings for a 4 day week and less work stress.
