OH app

It was, for me, an uneventful weekend made up mostly of TV, reading and doing a couple of simple online courses that are free with my school account. The others were much busier than me. No rain but not a huge amount of sun either, still lovely to sit and read in the garden while listening to house martins making some cheerful noise.

BigA cooked up a lovely breakfast for us on the bank holiday morning which we ate in the garden before the sun was too strong. I ventured further afield on Monday to the shops and despite the lingering and slight pain in my neck and shoulder I felt almost normal. I continued with the book 'Butter' it has taken a bit of perseverance but now I'm over half way through and it is making me hungry and excited for our trip to Japan in Easter next year. I am minded to write down the dishes the characters seem to enjoy the most and see if I too can taste what the serial killer has enjoyed! We were lucky that M popped in following her epic trip to Peru and once again BigA made delicious falafel that we again ate around the garden table enjoying what was the last of the warm evenings this week. After she left I set about doing bits around the house that I am now capable of once more. I also got the empty herb and spice pots I'd been saving out and did A a spice and herb kit to get her started at uni. She is much more likely to cook for herself if she can make it taste good. With her heading off so soon conversations and thoughts are often about my experience at uni. I loved it so much and can't figure out how I managed in such a tiny room with a very small shared kitchen and only 2 showers and 2 toilets. There were 13 of us in the hall! Despite my comprehensive list I forgot can opener and so have now got that sorted.

I had an easy week in many ways but I overdid it a bit on Wednesday with changing bed sheets and walking to meet a pal. A bus ride or two and a lovely lunch. I also got BigA to take me to a big car park where I drove around. Happy that my legs feel fine and I can move as I should, but very mindful of the remaining pain in my shoulder muscle. But I was tired after all that and so with M and BigA out A treated me to a Chinese takeaway and we watched TV and sipped Aperol spritzes I'd made. I'm making the most of this.

I had my OH assessment this week too. It was the same Dr who did my fitness for work assessment when I joined Winchmore. A lovely and efficient man who was happy with my suggestions for a self led phased return and for the school to review with me as I go. That way I can see how it feels. I'm to avoid corridors at busy times and will do 50% days to start. He remarked that he understood that I tend to rush my returns and so was pleased that I was going to look after myself.

After that online assessment I took A up breakfast, she was the only one still in bed and then we decided to make cheese scones like we used to when she was little. The two of us were very clumsy and I dropped a bag of flour at one point. But the scones were lovely and we quickly ate a load, very tasty with butter melting as they were so fresh from the oven. We also had a go at making some cheese twists with the puff pastry I'd defrosted (having been in the freezer for over a year) they were also a great success and us domestic goddesses then companionably sat in the dining room reading and occasionally sharing our random thoughts with each other. Many of hers are understandably about how she feels about going to uni. I know we'll miss each other, a good sign that she's had a happy childhood and is ready for the next bit. I had put a range of the tea she likes in containers and added them to the pile of stuff. I think this is my way of holding her tight when she gets there.

I took myself off to art therapy yesterday and was happy to note the difference in my stamina and confidence on the tube compared to the fortnight before. I didn't need to immediately rest when I got back. Later that afternoon I prepared dinner, making a fairly successful veggie toad in the hole. We had E over for dinner, it has been a while.
