Wallis Island

I woke up 3 times on Saturday morning, one because BigA's alarm went off as he set off on a mini frisbee tournament. I mooched about for the day, and then got ready for my ex pupil to take me out to dinner. It was so lovely to see him and his new wife and we managed to find pictures of the olden days. I still find it remarkable that he credits me, he'd told a work colleague he was meeting his old teacher and they had said his much they wish they could meet up with the one who had helped them. It felt good.

I've been trying to get proper confirmation of surgery date for a couple of weeks now. I know well enough how easy it is for these things to get lost in the system. After a few blind alleys I got through to my nurse, she'd been off for a couple of weeks. She worked her magic and on Thursday I got confirmation for the 9th July. They called BigA as I wasn't picking up. So, all being well that's the day. I'm pleased and of course a bit worried and frightened. But I'm doing my best to keep a positive mind.

Work wise, my heavier teaching load week (2 week timetable), there is a distinct sense of end of term about the school even though we have almost 6 weeks left.

I was grateful that I could get to work on Monday as somehow, a mini cooper had turned on its side in our road and the fire service was also blocking the road. We cannot figure out how it can have happened. I was not going to be able to get down our one way street. I cautiously approached a fire officer - "excuse me, I know I'm not a priority but would you be able to tell me roughly how long until the road is cleared, I'm parked just there." The answer was - ages! But, he reassured me, no one's going to look if you turn in the road. So I did and happily no one else had blocked me in.

I enjoyed drama club and ran a couple of show rehearsals and had some more successful lessons. I did have to get very stern with a few classes and students but it is getting better. I had some proper laugh out loud moments too.

M has now finished her A-levels, they are both free. It feels strangely wonderful. This long summer, so likely to be the last time they are so free until they retire! They have amusingly so far spent their time tidying and deep cleaning their bedrooms and shopping. M headed off to spend father's day with her dad and brother. Then they plan their festival trip.

Yesterday was lovely, a beautiful day so I spent most of it on the garden. Then in the early evening we set off to see A's A-level art exhibition, followed by a delicious Thai meal and then the cinema to see 'Ballard of Wallis Island'. I thought it would be good, and it was, funny and moving. As we left the rain made London smell fresher and I was thankful it cleared the air and drenched the garden.
