NSO

Good morning
On Saturday I was nervous as I was NSOing for a roller derby game. Non skating official. My job was penalty box timer. Mostly fine but the pressure! BigA and A were able to watch the games and enjoy that, I felt envious of those on track, one day.

A worked all day Sunday, she was shattered and so I understood why she decided to stay at home when I went off to sing at the Folk 33 event. As it was father's Day there were lots of tributes and dedications, lots of dad's favourites and ones that just make me think of him. It was tough not to cry, I held it together for most of it but not all.

Ayla had drawn a lovely picture of her and her dad for his gift. Very special. It proudly sits in our room.

My work week had its usual ups and downs, some frustrations with behaviour but again, a little better, even with the heat. Some parents being supportive when I called to say their child was rude etc, sadly some less so. Almost asking what I did. I pointed out that I don't tell off children for fun.

I was asked to run a voice workshop for the beginner teacher group and really enjoyed being able to share my expertise in that way. I think it went down wel.

The Head also came to find me to see what other subjects I might be able to teach so he can justify potentially offering me a permanent contract. I felt very happy about that, which I think shows that it's the right place for me. But boy it was hot.

This week was teacher appreciation day and the school organised thank you cards for the students to fill in. I got quite a few from my new form. All saying how happy they were they had me. One said 'thank you for being the first normal tutor we've had.' which made me smile. The boys I'm keeping in line were less happy!

I was oddly optimistic about my future at being a teacher in Enfield and so I went to a branch meeting for my union. We don't have a rep at our school so I wanted to find out a bit and support a union that has done so much for me. It was very worthwhile and I am now going to pass on the information needed to the other NASUWT members at my school.

And so rolled on my weekend, it really does feel good starting it on a Thursday.

The girls and I went shopping yesterday, they were so very sweet about it. We had fun despite the heat. M went off to work and once home A and I went through all my clothes and did a huge clean out. It felt great to see the pile of rejected stuff ready to go to charity.
