Showing off my garden

We had a great day on Saturday, I spent most of the morning prepping food and BigA went and got more stuff before a whole load of great friends came over spread out over the day and into early evening. While I was prepping my uncle Colin called and we chatted for almost an hour, he is very easy to talk to and I appreciated his love and concern. We had a much shorter chat on Wednesday. At the party everyone made the right appreciative noises about the garden and how beautiful it is, and we sat in the moving sun all squished up one end as it set for us behind the houses and had a fire. It was really good to catch up with people and see them chatting happily to each other too. I| felt very loved and had a couple of cries when people inevitably asked about the upcoming surgery.  The sun shone the next day too and I spent a fair amount of it helping BigA tidy up, he did the lion share, but couldn't face skating round and round with a little hangover. I did make it to the Folk singing session and was so pleased to see Edgar there so I had someone in the audience to call my fan for the 2 songs we did. That evening a chap called Neil arrived, I've known him for a number of years and he works all over the world, he needed a bed and so he used one of the sofa beds for a few days. He's very tall and I worried a little he wouldn't fit but he seemed happy enough and it was certainly cheaper than the nearest hotel.

I headed to choir again this week, ready for our public performance on Saturday. It's called the big sing and it's just an hour near the clock in Crouch End. I'm to wear a bright top - I hope the sun is still shining for it. I often feel like I don't want to go back out after work, and Monday was a full on day. The students were really pushing me and it didn't feel fun but then the next day the classes were so much better and so were the next ones, to the point where I found myself laughing and smiling more than not. Teenagers are funny things, and they certainly keep you on your toes. I had a good meeting with one of the Assistant Heads about what else I might be able to offer the school given my experience. It's so nice to feel appreciated and for them to recognise this. A lot will depend on how well I recover but she said that they are already talking about how they can keep me.

M had her first big exam this week, 2 down 6 to go and she was so nervous for the first one. I don't remember being so conscientious, I think there is so much more pressure now, most of it unnecessary . Otherwise the girls have mainly been revising and doing all they can to prepare without sending themselves mad. I did get A out of the house on Friday when we did the big shop together and had brunch just before. Part time life. I spent part of it in the garden, part making some healthy snacks for school. The bars you can buy have so much sugar or fake sugar in them. My ones taste just fine.

I had some positive news around the whole old school debacle. It has finally been formally NFAed - No further action. But we still now need that to be agreed by the DBS peeps. One day this will all be an unpleasant story to maybe tell.

Last night I went out with an old pal from Southgate and it was lovely to laugh about how badly I feel I'm teaching right now, how differently things used to be. I'd met up with Big A and D before so it was an afternoon of chatting. I got a bit lost on the way between the 2 venues but a kind waitress let me go through the staff exit as I'd been walking around for a while and she could see where I was supposed to be. Lovely food and beautiful setting inside an old part of Kings Cross.

I've got a busy day ahead so I'll drink the tea BigA brought me and then get on.
