Reading in the sun
The sun remained glorious on Saturday and I had a very peaceful day. In the evening we headed off to the coast - Leigh on Sea - to meet up with T and D who are visiting the UK from Malawi. It was lovely to talk about those years together. The not drinking meant I could drive us home to a much warmer house than the night air by the sea.
More roller derby practice on Sunday, I'd told myself I'd do more core exercises in the week and really didn't do half of what I hoped I would. But I am now not hurting all over on the Monday so I'm sure I'm getting used to it and maybe a bit fitter. BigA and I headed to Hampstead Heath to meet SSi and D for a modest picnic and chats, before we headed home for an evening in front of the TV and a freezer meal.
My 'working week' actually began with me going to work, and although I haven't officially started I went to help with the year 12's practice for their devising exam. I had fun and enjoyed the directing skills needed. They responded well to me and I already feel like their teacher.
The next day my mum arrived - I love that we are close enough for this. We had a few days of some sun, lots of food and cuddles. I had hoped that the sun would continue to shine fully and planned another BBQ for us and my pal Sharon and the other J boys. North London has a shortage of corn on the cob but luckily S came from south of the river with some very tasty ones - and a quite wonderful crochet pickle, that A pinched and I haven't seen since! We all managed a little more time in the garden than the week before so perhaps I'll plan one for each Tuesday to track the temperature. It is lovely sitting in the garden - we should try and get a few more nice chairs and a table you can eat at.
The girls looked after Hn for us so I could take mum out for her Mothers Day meal. The cats coped well and I think if Hn had stayed a bit longer they would have gotten used to each other. I was sad she had to go and the house felt empty without her. I set about doing some tasks for my new job and planning my first week of lessons.
It's mostly been reading and encouraging the girls to revise.
