Is it coming home?
Because of the day off on the Thursday, my weekend was a much needed - do almost nothing affair, a mooch about the house rather than anything big. The same can't be said for the rest of the family who seemed endlessly out and doing.
I looked at the school calendar... 13 school days left. And this week the new interim Head came in. I'd been preparing a pack for him. Things I suspect he would want to know and to help him get a quick picture of the school. He's potentially only going to be here for 1 term but what I'm hoping for is someone I can learn from. Someone unafraid to make some hard choices. Someone who backs up my expectations to enable us to provide our students with the education they deserve. The reality felt mixed. Partly because my current boss was difficult about us (the new head and other deputy) having time together. It's almost like we're being held at arms length.
The new head had explained he talks to think, so I'm having to listen to that, which is ok but when I've got lots of ideas because I've been here two terms, feels slow - I'm not sure we have this luxury of time. But after a little time together I know he's going to do some of the necessary HR stuff and address the problems. He's clever and knows things I don't do I'm going to be able to learn from him. We just have to get through these next 8 school days before it's really possible to move on.
I decided to throw my caution of going out on a school night out the window and on Tuesday went out with A and her friend and I met up with Kandace, who I met in Malawi but she's from London and now lives in the Philippines. She worked at the linked primary school to us. It was lovely to see her, we met at a rainy Finsbury Park festival which was a bit of a damp squib. We abandoned it after a couple of acts in favour of a pub for crisps and warmth and happily not too busy with football fans. At the festival our pal Sue was there in her mayoral chains. I of course bowed to her as is my civic duty.
And then, I really went wild and went out the next night too, for the football. As M was away with her dad, who is now back for good, it was us three, unci Dan and some frisbee people. Good game!
Yesterday I left work early-ish to head to a primary school dance event. It was the culmination of A's work experience. Not bad given what it was and it was one of those proud mum moments that the organiser wanted to tell us how great A had been. She had done loads.
Today it's her birthday party... Probably the last one at home.
