I neglected to mention the flying visit from my niece Monday last week, I didn't see much of her as she and her friend set off for their gig and I was up and off in the morning before they were out of bed. But is was nice to see her and welcome her to our home once again. May it be a regular occurrence. I had such a fun weekend. The 5 of us got on really well, reminiscing and laughing about hen doos and parties of the past intermingled with more serious conversations and agreements on the state of education these days. We really got to enjoy Oxford, despite the grey rainy days, and I did my first ever escape room. We made a great team and we're told so once we escaped - apparently lots of people don't get on quite so well. It felt like a genuine break away and a chance to switch off.
Monday rolled on and that evening we headed to a Banksy exhibition in which I learnt quite a bit and appreciated the art lots. We had food out, A treated me to an orange and lemonade. She couldn't quite believe how much it cost. Us girls headed back home to be in bed at a sensible time and left the boys to it.
School has felt strange once again, all sorts of things just not getting sorted, not least who the head will be. Some staff are really frustrating me, simply not doing basic expectations and then I hear those and staff tell off students. I wonder if they get the hypocrisy. I've had to have a couple of robust conversations about expectations and professional behaviour. My Head in agreement but never quite making it clear that there are consequences. And to be fair there aren't at the moment.
I did get Thursday off. Our school is a polling station and so even though I turned off my alarm I was awake by 6 and up doing stuff as if it were a working day. I headed off to the polling station but went to the wrong one at first, something else that has changed since we've been away. Happy that I'd done my civic duty I headed home and did some chores before I sat down to plan the next school INSET day.
The girls returned to normal school this week after their mock exams, M one day fewer as she has finally sorted the stuck earring in her earlobe. They don't know how they did yet.
BigA has almost sorted the windows and been off training too, done a fair amount of frisbee.
The cats are getting used to the rain and can now jump up to most countertops. Our food is no longer safe.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow Ian.
