Not Ofsted

Last weekend BigA was away with his new Frisbee team having a weekend of fun and feeling old and slow at times. He was in Norwich, our city, certainly my city. Knowing he was drinking non alcoholic beer in the LCR (the university club we used to go to) was strange.

I stayed at home with the girls and worked on my impact review for the my NPQH. I hadn't quite realised it was due, which shows my new job has been distracting me.

As is a tradition of ours, A slept in my bed one night and I put up with the cats joining us and although mildly annoying, I also put up with her soft snoring. I am so very aware of the privilege of my child wanting this time with me and how soon it will be that she is off in her own place, an adult working out how life is when you're not at home. Both girls are looking into what universities they might apply to, and I know it's an exciting step but I would love them to consider a gap year.

I escaped into the garden when the rain had stopped and although you wouldn't know it I did a huge amount of weeding. It looked essentially the same when I had finished. I might try and do more today. The local foxes are enjoying our garden and the cats have had a couple of encounters too.

A and M hosted their now monthly games night, and so c and I took the opportunity to go out for dinner. We went to a small Polish place that we've walked, driven and bussed past hundreds of times and finally went in. The food was delicious and very very filling. Perfect for the cold night. We were able to walk there and back, so not only getting out of the house but a dose of very fresh and chilly air with our exercise.

At work this week we had the Head teacher interviews. I'm not sure what it says about me but every school I've worked in there has been a transition of headteacher. The phrase always the bridesmaids never the bride comes to mind. The Governors didn't appoint either candidate on the first day and that same morning we got the ofsted call... We were allowed to defer - which is good in lots of ways but I've not really been sleeping well now that we know it's looming. I have no idea when they will come now, with the knowledge it could be next week, next month and we've even heard it can be up to a year later!

Then in the week we got notice that some teachers have agreed to ballot for strike action. It's almost definitely one man who has set it up but who knows who will join in. Some staff don't like how the current Head is dealing with a particular situation. It's 9 teachers and I think we'll be fine for a day or two if they do. It's not my union so I won't be a scab. I think that's how that works.

So school has been rather bonkers but I've survived a really odd week, good sign.

Last night we all headed off to a private viewing of the art of a lady called Joan. She and BigA worked together to run the hub cafe. It was better than I'd expected and as we were already out we went to one of A's favourite restaurants for Thai food.

To help still my mind and switch off I've also done a jigsaw this week. One I got for Christmas and it really did the trick.
