bathroom progress
The weekend was a quiet one, mainly little things, and TV. I had a shower at Joe's and did some bits around the house. I went out for a drive with BigA by my side to make sure I was ok, emergency stop performed and happily all was well.
On Monday we all went to see Metamorphosis at the Lyric theater in Hammersmith and, despite it meaning a later than normal night, it was great to see. Very interesting set and the actor playing Gregor was so athletic - swinging on the light and hanging upside down from the corner of the ceiling.
Without our bathroom we've all been finding places to shower. All of us planning the week around that in some ways. All of us lucky to know where to go. But it is a bit odd - feels a little like Malawi when there was no water or no power. Expect it's colder here of course. There's a lot that goes wrong with an old house and the rain revealed another issue, but hey...
I'm finding my way at work, the highs and lows all part of the experience. I've been called upon to eat food cooked by a group who were so genuinely excited to share it I felt welcomed and loved and when less than an hour I was told to fuck off and then asked why I was there at all, I just smiled. I'm too posh apparently. Meetings where I hear some deeply unpleasant things about a student followed by staff complaining that they are not fully appreciated. And this in a week where I was asked 'what do leadership do? ' the question wasn't intended as an open one, more of a rhetorical one. Happily that member of staff later in the week saw a little of what I do and I feel like I'm winning the staff around on the whole. Change is hard and there's a lot that needs changing but one step at a time.
The cats had their second vaccinations and are almost ready to explore outside.
BigA had a trip up to Scotland but not much more to report there.
Today is the beginning of half term and later this afternoon we are setting off for Scicily. I will do my best not to worry about the INSET day on the first day back and hope that the computer will work.
