Blue haired girl
As I finished typing last week our power had been off for 24 hours and as a chiperoni passed we didn't even have enough sun to b get the solar going. But the trusty camping kettle and long life milk meant I still got a cup of tea and a day of sorting continued. A and three friends had stayed over after her grad with a controlled amount of alcohol, they had had a good night. I smiled as I tided up, throwing out more bottles than they had had real access to. It looked like a serious party but I know really they just had the dregs of some things I am glad are now finished.
We decided to take the girls who had stayed over to breakfast - where we could at least ignore the fact we didn't have power for a bit and enjoy someone else cooking for us. Perfect plan, all wrapped up because the Malawi winter has hit.
Because A has finished her exams, the table was once again free, I cracked open my last jigsaw to calm me and take my mind off the various bits and pieces we have left to do. I am so grateful to BigA for being there to do lots of the life admin side. I know once we return to the UK I'm bound to have to take back a lot of the responsibilities I have happily let him organise for the last 6 years. We didn't do much really - BigA played some disc golf and ultimate, A had a meal out with friends and we moved a load of stuff to people who had bought it. The house happily doesn't feel empty because of all the furniture that is the schools and will simply stay here.
The working week is my last full one here - lots of last meetings and final lessons but nice to be so close to the end. I got some nice cards and a box of homemade brownies, which I LOVE. I have mainly been making sure that I've saved everything in easily finable places and thinking of home. A few events too, sky at night and prize giving - A helped at the first and received prizes at the second. It was a very simple but lovely event and A was so pleased to be awarded top student in two subjects, drama (of course) but also history. And it was literacy week so a dress up day too. I put on a blue wig, having found a book with a character with blue hair in it. Then I was home earlier for my second day of the online HPQH training.
Monday was a difficult day for A as we took Bruno up to his new home. She was understandably very sad and I have to admit I found the house strangely quiet the next morning, I'm so used to him immediately jumping at me for food when I get up and moving around my legs as I have a morning wee. She's visited him to check how he is and, like most cats, he seemed happy in a new location as he gets food and affection. But the next morning when I opened the front door, in he came, looking for his food and A leapt out of bed at the first meow. Back he went and has been keeping Bex up trying to get out. Not sure if it is to return to us or just to get outside.
The bid to eat all our food before we leave is still going well and very much helping the building excitement of the shopping prospects in the UK. The best one is the full tub of chocolate ice cream and I made my first ever genuine successful batch of flapjacks (the English kind)
We heard too that our tenants are properly moving out and a date for the key exchange set. And have an agreed date for keys to be given back. All so very real.
We have yet to sort the car and to close our bank account, lots to do next week. Nearly there.
So not long as all and all being well the next email you get will be from me in England! Then we'll have to decide if I continue with my missives.
