Tea estate

I managed to play frisbee on Sunday, although I've did my best to swim most days last week, running around with a still slightly snotty nose was not as appealing. It was good fun and I certainly felt less fit than usual. The swimming less appealing this week because of the almost constant rain. But the cold is now fully gone.

I completed my last jigsaw too, I could easily spend a small fortune on them so I guess I've saved lots being here! The ones I like usually take me a few hours but I just find them so useful for not thinking about anything. Which is good as I'm finding I'm thinking too much about life back in London. I'm genuinely looking forward to so much but I'm nervous too. Reading about strikes and misery does not help. But I'm sure it's going to be more than fine.

It's been raining lots and lots, well it is the rainy season. The grass looks so lush. It takes Laurence 3 mornings to get it all cut. And the fruit trees continue to grow. We discovered another one this week. A custard apple tree. I think it's because we have watered the garden generously all year. The peach tree has been less successful in producing fruit. Animals getting them first.

Margaret and Dick arrived this week too.  And now it really feels like Christmas with family around. We've invited Keith for the big day. Cooking on order today, Big A is doing the vegetarian show piece.

We set off for Satemwa Tea estate yesterday. The rain made the journey less exciting to stay with, we could see the rolling hills and very far at all. I felt a pang of disappointment at that, then a very exciting part where the roads were mainly mud and BigA's calm and expert driving meant we made it. Happily it dried up a bit so we had a less thrilling journey back and we could see a big more too.
The day itself was very civilised, tea tasting followed by a game or two of croquet and then high tea. An absurd amount of cake. The main one was carrot cake, which made me think of my dad. I will always feel sad he couldn't get out here. A was quite good at the games and if the grass had been smoother I'm sure she would have knocked her father off course more often.

So onto Christmas. The tree has a very respectable number of presents under it and I'm looking forward to the day.
