Geography Trip and frisbee things 2022
Saturday started with a longish drive, 4 teenagers, which happily meant they slept mainly and I listened to my podcasts. It's a rather dull 4 1/2 hours of long roads and lots of speed traps.
Then almost straight into frisbee, Blantyre won. I played a little bit but not very much on the Saturday then quite a bit more on the Sunday. One nasty smack to my broken finger but I have a feeling that may have helped! BIgA got really nasty cramp but it sorted itself quickly. A played very well, until she got a painful muscle. But I'm pleased to report it meant she didn't do any homework over the weekend and gotta proper brain break. Much needed in my opinion.
Monday rolled around, a public holiday and for us an appointment at the British high commission in Lilongwe, to get A's passport sorted. No such luck. Despite us telling them it was a holiday they booked us anyway and then we weren't able to have it as no Malawi staff were there. And they said the £100 for the appointment is non-refundable. It's all very irritating when we haven't actually been disorganised. Just the passport office in the UK being unbelievably slow and not knowing the public holidays of one of the Commonwealth countries!
Humph. So then the longish drive home.
Tuesday, back at school and a fair well to bigA as he set off for the UK. I really don't know how he can pack for trips so late. I've been trained to make a list and pack much earlier! I'm a little jealous that he's going to see family and friends but work is busy so I'm sure the time will fly by.
As is mine and Ayla's tradition, the first night Asher is away she sleeps in my bed. Bruno joined us. Not my most restful night but lovely that she still wanted to do it.
Wednesday was full on, and very frustratingly we got an email to say that two of the teachers who were coming in September had pulled out. That leaves us in a very difficult position. I understand the reasons but it's very hard to get high quality at this time of the year.
The PTA meeting wasn't too bad and I managed to get home in time to cook and get myself a packed lunch ready.
Thursday morning and I got my tent and stuff ready to go off on the year 10 Geography trip. A isn't doing that subject so she stayed behind with plans for friends places. The coach of students was fine, they played music not to my taste, but we all agreed I would put my headphones in, listen to my podcasts and ignore them.
Arriving at the lake I really did see the luck of my life right now. I spent a lovely few hours drinking tea and sending emails, writing plans and being 'in charge' of the base. A fun filled night, silly games and I was asleep by 10:30. I'm not sure the students were but hey.
Then Friday was just lovely too. There are always firsts in this job. My first geography trip and the first time I've escorted students to mosque to pray.
More food and silly games and sleeping in my tent.
This morning I've woken to terrible music from the village and our students awake and giggling away. I'm glad I'm not driving home!
