We spent a lovely day on Saturday with a small self drive and lunch at another lodge with a lovely pool. Then we set off for home. Sadly when we got back I saw that Kanga had a very swollen leg that looked like it had been chewed, it was infected, really nasty. The vet came and after a very long time, 3 injections, she performed minor surgery on Kanga on our table. As you know, sadly he died on Tuesday. The vet thinks the infection was too far gone. Frightening how quickly it got him. The next day we found out that yet another campus cat had been attacked and killed. In a odd chain of communication it was up to bigA to tell his owner. That's 4 cats in a month. All linked to the stray dogs.
Easter Sunday was quiet, the hunt for Kanga, after he's got away that morning, was fruitless but was followed by a hunt for eggs. She still really loves it and it was a great distraction on not being able to find Kanga. Then A and I made cloudy lemonade and lemon sorbet with lemons from our tree. We nearly made a cake too but we only had one egg. Kanga did return that evening. 6pm. But as you know, his didn't last much longer.
Then on Monday we had planned to set off for our second trip of the holiday. But delayed it because of Kanga. I feel sad for Bruno now he's lost his house mate. We're keeping him inside. A was of course very upset, and I let Kanga's two most recent owners know.
On Tuesday, the trip to Blue Zebra was a rather somber affair but once on the speedboat heading to the island I think we knew we shouldn't waste the trip being too maudlin. We've been there once before, that time we were in a beautiful house on one side of the island, the COVID deals allowing for us to splash out. This time we had a smaller set up on the other side, but still very beautiful and with a fantastic view and very spacious. Spa treatments and lush food to go with the beauty around us. Playing cards, darts and pool, some wobbly badminton it was like living in a very elaborate pub. Swimming when we wanted to and A and bigA did a bit of kayaking. A announced she would love a pool table at home. I get the feeling BigA would like that too. One of the staff leaving has one... I'm not sure where we would put it.
I'm not sure I've ever played darts before and I certainly got better at the evening past. But that too looks like a possible new hobby!
We travelled back yesterday and had eaten so much during the day, having stopped off in Balaka for Italian food. Just a bit of unpacking, one load of washing, TV and bed.
